  • Walk To School Week

    Tue 21 May 2019 C.Preece

Walk To School Week - Week Beginning 20th May 2019

This week is 'Walk to School Week' and at Casllwchwr we would like to get involved. The Walk to School week is a great celebration where pupils and grown-ups around the UK unite for one week of walking to school and this year is the 90th anniversary.  The challenge will get to the heart of walking and how it can benefit the whole community, as well as improve wellbeing.

As a school, we launched the programme by having an introduction assembly for the children yesterday and then today we will start the programme through to Friday when the children will tally the days they walk to school.

We understand that many of you travel various distances to get to us every day and we fully understand this. However, there are ways to still take part in the programme such as parking a few streets away to walk to our entrance.  It is not compulsory for the children to take part, however as a school we will arrange a prize for those children who successfully complete the walk to school week.

Any questions feel free to ask.

    Kindest regards,

    Miss Preece

  • Charity Funny Hair Day - 17th May, 2019

    Wed 08 May 2019 D Brayley

    CHARITY FUNNY HAIR DAY

On Friday the 17th of May, we will be supporting Kids Cancer Charity celebrate 30 years of helping children affected by cancer, by holding a funny hair day, a voluntary contribution of £1 per child would be greatly appreciated.

Kids Cancer Charity is a national charity, set up in 1989 and based in Swansea. The charity provides vital support services to children who have got cancer, as well as their siblings.  They also support the children of parents who have cancer.  They provide Play Therapy services, support groups, befriending and breaks programmes so that families can spend some much needed to time together. The charity receives no government funding and relies on people and organisations who fund raise and generously donate to them. For example, money donated via Children In Need, funds one of their qualified and sought after Play Therapists. She has even featured on the programme alongside a local family who have been assisted by Kids Cancer Charity through the toughest of journeys.

Lara, from Kids Cancer Charity will be popping into the school to thank the children and chat a little bit about how the money raised will be used.

Any support is greatly appreciated by us and the charity.

  • Hello from Mr Thomas

    Mon 04 Mar 2019 O. Thomas

    Dear Parent/Carer

It is with both pleasure and pride I write to you as the new Headteacher of Casllwchwr Primary School.

I am absolutely thrilled to be in this position and to have the opportunity to work with you to ensure that we build upon what we already do well as a school. Having worked closely with Mrs Reece over the last 7 weeks, it is extremely important to me that we continue the excellent work that has been established under Mr Owen, and create a school that we can truly be proud of.

As a school, we have so much to be proud of already and over the last few years we have worked tirelessly with the support of the children, governors and you, the parents, to move the school forward. However it is important that we continue to strive for even greater success. Every child has the ability to do amazing things - together we can make this potential a reality.

For those of you who know little about me, I live locally with twin sons who are currently studying for their GCSEs in the summer term. Having been a teacher for 20 years, I know how important it is to establish a good relationship between home and school. I enjoy travelling and the outdoors and all sports and I really feel that being part of team and community that works together brings the greatest success.

I am a committed individual - passionate about working with children - and believe in providing children with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which builds their enthusiasm for learning and helps them to grow and develop to their full potential. I strongly believe achievement and enjoyment go hand in hand, and with this in mind I hope you will support our high expectations in all areas across our school.

Initially my main focus in school will be to ensure that all children are learning and making good progress, experiencing the highest quality teaching and learning within a happy, safe and secure environment. However for us to continue on with the next steps of our journey, I will be talking to the children about how they would like to see the school move forward.

My aim is to be as visible as possible around the school and the communityboth in the morning and at the end of the school day, please do come and have a chat. I also intend to have a meeting with the parents over the next few weeks, I’ll send out further details shortly.

It now just remains for me to say once again how much I am looking forward to working with you and thank you for commitment and support towards the staff and pupils of Casllwchwr Primary School.

    Yours sincerely

    Mr Owen Thomas

    Headteacher
