Welcome to Reception 2022-2023!

Croeso!

Staff in Reception:

Mrs Davies (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Miss Fowler will cover Mrs Davies' Maternity leave from January 2023

Mrs Smith (Friday)

Miss Kate

Mrs Beers

We are all so excited to welcome you back to school and we are looking forward to taking you on a new adventure this year! Mrs Davies and Mrs Smith and all of the other staff are looking forward to seeing you and listening to some of your stories of what you have been up to.   We have got a fun-filled year, exciting times ahead, with lots already planned for "Open Your Eyes Week".

Our topic this half term will be "All Aboard" we will be taking children on a journey and learning all about transport.

Fruit

We invite children to bring in a healthy fruit snack from home, in a labelled bag/container so that they can bring any packaging or leftover fruit home. Children will also need a full water bottle at the start of every day.  These will be sent home daily.

Forest Friday

Children will take part in a whole range of lessons every Friday in our amazing nature reserve in the school grounds.  If children could please bring appropriate comfortable clothing on Fridays that would be very much appreciated.  If you wish to leave your child's wellies on their peg, please make sure they are clearly labelled.  Children will also need a waterproof coat and in the colder months we would advise you to put in some extra layers and send in a warm hat.

We will aim to be out every Friday, rain or shine!

PE

PE will be timetabled for every Thursday. Children will need to wear a PE kit into school on a Thursday – shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a t-shirt.  Sometimes we will have P.E outside so it would be advisable for children to wear trainers too.

Reading

During the autumn term we will be assessing the children's phonic knowledge and moving on to learn set 2 sounds.  Children were given Set 1 phonics packs in nursery and it would be really beneficial if you could keep learning these with the children. When the children are confident with their sounds we will begin to issue reading books.  Children will develop at different stages so please don't worry if your child is not ready for a book at the same time as some of the other children.  We will only send a book home when we feel the children are confident with their sounds and blending of words.

We will also use our online reading scheme called 'Reading Eggs'.  This is an exciting and valuable tool to help raise children's confidence in reading.  Once set up children will be allocated an individual log in and they can start using it at home. These will sent home during the first few weeks of term.

Labelling

We would like to encourage you to label all jumpers, cardigans, clothes and bags as this helps us get all belongings back to the right children.  We also advise you to label lunch box containers and water bottles.
