Welcome to Year 2. Croeso!
Staff in Year 2: Mrs S. Ashman, Miss C. Preece,
Mrs D. Hall
We are so excited to be welcoming you back to school, particularly after such a strange and unprecedented few months. Miss Preece will be teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Ashman the rest of the week. We have got a fun-filled, exciting year ahead, with lots already planned for 'Open Your Eyes Week'.
Our Autumn Topic
Our topic for the Autumn term will be 'Long, Long, Ago. Pupil voice is very important to us so you will be helping us to plan (EPIC planning) what you want to learn about the new topic, when we get started in next week and we are looking forward to hearing all of your wonderful ideas.
Monday (PM)- Children to wear school jumpers or red cardigans with t-shirt and suitable bottoms such as leggings, tracksuit bottoms or shorts (summer) and trainers into school on this day. Children will need to be able to fasten their shoes themselves. This is essential for the children's safety while taking part in physical activity. The children will also be doing the daily mile every day weather permitting.
Spelling / Homework:
Homework will be given out on a Friday along with weekly spelling words to learn for the spelling challenge the following Friday. These will be put onto the Y2 class blog and class dojo with instructions on how to showcase their work online for the teachers to view.
At Casllwchwr, we do many forms of reading:
Guided reading in groups and whole class (same text for whole group- decided by the teacher with lots of talk involved and shared teaching objectives)
Shared (paired ,group and whole class)
Individual (Reading with the class teacher/teaching assistant)
Individual reading days will be confirmed at the start of the term and it is very important that children remember to bring their books in on their allocated day as they will be listened to and have their book changed on that day. We are continuing with our online reading scheme called 'Reading Eggs'. This is an exciting and valuable tool to help raise children's confidence in reading. Once set up children will be allocated an individual log in and they can start using it at home. this will become part of year 2 homework.
Fruit and Drinks
Healthy eating is a priority in our school and we are encouraging children to eat a fruit snack, which they can bring into school. Due to current guidelines we are unable to sell fruit at this time. Children have their own school water bottles which they have access to during the school day and will need to be taken home and brought back each day.
Website, twitter & Dojo:
Remember to check our class blog to see what we have been learning and our twitter feed to see pictures of the lovely things we do. Our twitter account is @casllwchwr1 and we use the hash tag #cllpyear2. If anyone needs a bit of help to set up a twitter account, pop in and we can help you out. It’s very simple to use and so good for seeing what goes on in the classroom. We try to tweet a few times a week. We will also continue to use Class Dojo as a reward system and to update our class story on Dojo regularly.
Thank you for your support and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to discuss anything,
