Staff in Year 1

Teachers: Mrs L Poiner (Monday & Tuesday)

Mrs S Ashman (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday)

TA's will be shared between Year 1 & Year 2

Mrs Hall, Miss Carla, Miss Michelle,

It is really exciting to welcome you to Year 1. We are looking forward to getting to know  you this year and learn together through lots of lovely whole school and phase topics.

Our Autumn Topic

Our 'Bridge' topic for this term will be 'The Colour of Life'

PE Day:
Wednesday(AM)- Children to wear school jumpers or red cardigans with t-shirt and suitable bottoms such as leggings, tracksuit bottoms or shorts (summer) and trainers into school on this day. Children will need to be able to fasten their shoes themselves. This is essential for the children's safety while taking part in physical activity. The children will also be doing the daily mile every day weather permitting.

Estuary Education:
We are very fortunate to have such a rich learning environment literally on our doorstep. Every fortnight on a Tuesday, we will be completing activities using our local area.  Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather which includes, waterproof coats and wellies in the Winter.

Here are the dates for the first half term:  (subject to change,  you will be kept up to date)

Tuesday 12th Sept

Tuesday 26th Sept

Tuesday 10th Oct

Tuesday 24th Oct

Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be completed by the following Monday. Please find the weekly homework on the class blog.

At Casllwchwr, we do many forms of reading:

  • Guided reading in groups
  • Shared (paired ,group and whole class)
  • Individual (Reading with the class teacher/teaching assistant)

Our new reading system will be up and running after the first 2 weeks of settling into the new classes. We will send details home with further information.  We are continuing with our online reading scheme called 'Reading Eggs'.  This is an exciting and valuable tool to help raise children's confidence in reading.  Once set up children will be allocated an individual log in and they can start using it at home. this will become part of year 1 homework.

Fruit and Drinks

As a healthy school, we are encouraging children to eat a fruit snack which they can bring into school for their break time. Due to current guidelines we are unable to sell fruit at this time.  Children have their own school water bottles which they have access to during the school day and will need to be taken home and brought back each day.

Website, X 'twitter' & Dojo:

Remember to check our class blog to see what we have been learning and our 'X' feed (formally known as  Twitter) to see pictures of the lovely things we do.  Our 'X' feed account is @casllwchwr1 and we use the hash tag #cllpyear1.  If anyone needs a bit of help to set up a twitter account, pop in and we can help you out.  It’s very simple to use and so good for seeing what goes on in the classroom.  We try to tweet a few times a week.  We will also continue to use Class Dojo as a reward system.
