Welcome to Year 1!

Croeso!

Staff - Miss Glendon, Mrs Smith, Mrs Kidwell, Miss Carla, Mrs Harris

We are so excited to be welcoming you back to school, particularly after such a strange and unprecedented few months. Miss Glendon, Mrs Smith and all of the other teachers are looking forward to seeing all of your smily faces and listening to your lockdown memories.   We have got a fun-filled year, exciting ahead, with lots already planned for "Open Your Eyes Week".

Miss Glendon will be teaching on Monday-Thursday and Mrs Smith will be teaching on a Friday.

Our Autumn Topic

Our topic for the Autumn term will be 'Long, Long, Ago.  Pupil voice is very important to us so you will be helping us to plan (EPIC Planning) the new topic by telling us what you want to learn. We are super excited to hear all of your wonderful ideas.

Reading

At Casllwchwr, we do many forms of reading:

Guided reading- In groups and whole class (same text for whole group-decided by the teacher with lots of talk involved and shared teaching objectives)

Shared- Paired, group and whole class

Individual- Reading with the class teacher/teaching assistant

Individual reading days will be confirmed at the start of term.  Children will be listened to and have their book changed on that day. It is very important that children bring their reading books in on their allocated day.

We are continuing with our online reading scheme 'Reading Eggs' in late September.  This is an exciting and valuable tool to help raise children's confidence in reading.  Once set up children will be allocated an individual log in and they can start using it at home.

Spelling Challenge

High Frequency Words will be the focus of our spelling work this year and the children will have a weekly spelling challenge on a Friday. The children will have a week to learn their new spelling words and they will be challanged on the following Friday. Spelling words will be put on the Class blog and on Class dojo every week.

Homework

Homework will also be sent home on a Friday and completed by the following Friday. Homework will be on the class blog every week, this will include instructions on how children can showcase their work for their teachers to view.

PE

The children will take part in weekly PE sessions on a Friday this year and will be required to wear suitable footwear, joggers or sports bottoms and the Casllwchwr polo shirt or top.  This clothing and footwear are essential for the children's safety when taking part in physical activity.  We would like it if the children can come to school dressed in their PE clothing on their allocated day. A reminder that the children also take part in the daily mile every afternoon. We aim to do this every afternoon unless the weather prevents it.

Fruit & Drinks Bottles

At the moment we will not be providing fruit as a school.  Children are welcome to bring in a healthy fruit snack from home, in a labelled bag so that they can bring any packaging or leftover fruit home.  Children can bring a full water bottle at the start of every day.  These will be sent home daily.

Website, Twitter and Class Dojo

Remember to check our class blog/page to see all the exciting things we have been learning about as well as our school twitter page ‘@casllwchwr1’. Also, don’t forget to check our class dojo page where we will upload pictures to our class story and update you with messages and reminders about the things that are going on in school.  So please try and make sure you accept our invite if you haven’t already.

A huge thank you for your support and please don’t hesitate to contact us of you want to discuss anything.  We look forward to working with you as a team.

Kind Regards,

Miss A. Glendon and Mrs Smith :-)
